About the Book

Decency is the profundity of man’s insight as well as meaning for his existence. We find decency through the poetry of courage, the wonder of play, and the ecstasy of love. This discovery is solely dependent upon the vicissitudes of personal choice and is independent of circumstances or conditions. The value of this inestimable but uncertain enhancement transcends ideologies, dogmas, and philosophies. Decency is intrinsic to the understanding of all people, ideas, quests, and aspirations. At the same time, it’s fragile, ridiculed, and rare enough to merit notice. This conundrum results from the ignorance of man’s passionate attraction to the intemperate depravities of fear and greed. As a consequence, all of our ideologies and histories are reduced too studies of the absurdities and obscenities that result from these two adversities. Thankfully we are given a chance, uncertain as it is, to save ourselves from the opaque allure of these harmful deceits by listening to the lucidity of the poet. Humanity escapes destruction from false appeals when we hear the wisdom of integrity and then ensure ourselves with “sacred play” under the rubric of decency. The book is an attempt to validate the proposition that the risk of using the uncertainty of decency to ensure joy is a valuable pursuit. I’ve attempted this by satirizing five primal forces (fairytales) through an examination of Change, Chance, and the three indecencies I found in Shakespeare. These vulgarities are 1. The Mob, 2. Ideology, and 3. Power. In counterbalance The Bard consistently finds decency with 1. Verve, 2. Wit, and 3. Love. In sum, this is an endeavor to look at these six definitive Shakespearian categorization models through the aforementioned five satires / allegories in a quest to understand the viability of finding joy through the vacillating insurance of decency.
